The routes of Santiago de Compostela
The pilgrimage to Saint James the Apostle’s tomb attracts a lot of people. It is the opportunity to go on a personal journey or a quest and make connections. The Cathedral is a stop along one of the routes which comes from the North and heads down toward Spain.
Some people go on this journey with an evangelical spirit: leaving room for prayer, reading the Gospel, to a Christian pilgrimage site, searching for the face of Christ, with the spirit of conversion, they are answering Lord’s appeal. They ask the Church to help them on their journey. A credencial or pilgram’s passport is then given to them, to show them support on their journey from the Christian community.
The credencial can be obtained from the Diocesan Pilgrimage Service:
15 place Sainte-Glossinde, BP 10690
57019 METZ cedex 01
Tél. +33 (0)3 87 74 45 56 – pelerinages@catholique-metz.fr
The offices are open between
Monday and Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The credencial can be validated in the sacristy or the shop.
The Cathedral will validate the credencial by stamping it.
You just need to ask in the shop or the sacristy.
Others who don’t wish Christian faith to be the reason for going on this journey, also take this path for multiple personal reasons. Non-confessional St James societies bring them together if they want to. These associations provide them with pilgrims passports that will guide the travelers along their route.
Everybody walks along the same route, respects each other and supports each other. They may gather, if they want to, as St James societies.
We wish all of them a nice walk,
full of hope, light and joy !
